Finish The Ride and Finish The Run Santa Clarita is the valley's one-of-a-kind Halloween-season ride and race, organized by Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE). It starts at West Creek Park, 24247 Village Circle Drive, Valencia, around 7:00 AM. Riders choose 12, 25, or 62-mile routes through the SCV's rolling roads, runners and walkers get 5K and 10K costume runs, and there are best-costume awards for the brave souls who take Halloween seriously. Support goes to safer-streets advocacy, and a good time is basically guaranteed.

Why It's Special
A Ride With a Reason, and a Costume
What makes this event different from a typical charity ride is the personality. Riders and runners show up in costumes, the start line looks like a Halloween party on wheels, and the best-dressed get called out at the awards. It is the rare October event where you can go long on the bike and still feel the holiday spirit.
For the 62-mile route, expect the classic SCV climb-and-roll: out along the valley's edge, up into the hills, and back along the boulevards with views of the San Gabriel and Santa Susana ranges. The 12-mile ride and the 5K/10K runs keep it approachable for families, first-timers, and anyone whose costume is not built for 60 miles.
As a U.S. Army veteran and a 22-year SCV resident, Sam loves any event that gets neighbors moving on the same streets they drive every day. It is a genuinely community-driven morning, put together by a nonprofit that works for safer streets in Southern California, and the October weather in the valley is usually perfect for it: cool start, warm finish.

Who Should Go, and How to Prepare
Families & First-Timers
The 12-mile ride and the 5K walk are the sweet spot. Costumes optional but encouraged, and the flat start at West Creek Park is forgiving for kids on bikes or strollers at the run.
Serious Riders
The 62-mile route is the challenge. Train through October on the valley's climbs, and treat the week before as taper week with a light spin and plenty of rest.
The Costume Crowd
Go big but practical: layers that move, a cape that won't tangle in a wheel, and shoes you can actually race in. Best-costume awards make the effort worth it.
Race-Week Checklist
- Register in advance; day-of registration sells out or closes early
- Fill water bottles and pump tires the night before
- Arrive by 6:30 AM for parking, bibs, and the start corral
- Bring warm layers for the chilly 7 AM start; it warms up fast
- Fasten helmets properly, costumes never beat safety
- Plan a post-race brunch on the way home, you earned it
