What's Inside

The Year Santa Clarita Opened the Rink

The address is expected to highlight the city's biggest wins of the past year, several of which shaped the outdoor recreation landscape residents now enjoy. Here is what Sam expects the spotlight to shine on.

The Rink Sports Pavilion Opens

The event's venue is itself the headline: the brand-new, covered roller-skating pavilion at the George A. Carvalho Sports Complex. It is the city's newest gathering space and the perfect symbol of a community that keeps building fun, family-friendly places to be active together.

Haskell Canyon Bike Park Completion

The city's roughly 720-acre mountain-bike park opened in July 2026 with slopestyle, dual-slalom, downhill, cross-country, and pump-track trails for all skill levels. It has quickly become one of the valley's most beloved free outdoor destinations, and a new paved access-road project will make it even easier to reach.

David March Park Expansion

The expansion of David March Park, home of the beloved SCV stair workout, added a second exercise staircase, outdoor exercise equipment, a basketball court, a covered picnic pavilion, and a shaded playground, delivering a favorite gathering spot for fitness-minded residents.

William S. Hart Museum Reopens

The historic William S. Hart Museum reopened after restoration, giving residents and visitors a renewed look at the silent-film star's Newhall ranch and its connection to Santa Clarita's story. A cultural anchor for the valley's oldest neighborhood.

Via Princessa Park Underway

The city's 41st park, north of the Via Princessa Metrolink station, is under construction with four multi-sport fields, pickleball courts, a pedestrian tunnel beneath the tracks, a nature-themed playground, and shaded picnic areas. Another sign of the city's steady park investment.

Old Town Newhall Revitalization

Ongoing work in Old Town Newhall remains a centerpiece of the city's vision, especially as the neighborhood continues its recovery after the August Main Street fire. Supporting local shops, restaurants, and tasting rooms is the most direct way residents can help that revitalization forward.

From Sam

Why This Matters to SCV Residents and Buyers

Sam Silver has watched Santa Clarita grow for 22 years, and for anyone thinking about moving here, he points to the parks. Few cities this size keep opening this many new places to play, from the Haskell Canyon Bike Park to the Rink to the next slate of community parks on the way.

"When a city keeps investing in parks, trails, and community centers, it tells you a lot about the neighborhoods around them," Sam says. "It's why families love living here, and it's a big reason home values hold up. The State of the City is your chance to hear that plan straight from the Council."

Whether you are a longtime resident or weighing a move to the valley, the address is a low-cost, high-information way to understand where Santa Clarita is headed. And if you are house-hunting near any of these new parks, Sam knows the neighborhoods that surround them best.
