A Note for Our Community

The August 24, 2026 fire destroyed at least five businesses along Old Town Newhall's Main Street, including the Newhall Refinery restaurant, The MAIN performing arts theater, an auto collision center, Care Tucker Style House, and the former El Trocadero restaurant. Our hearts are with the owners, employees, and families. If your weekend plans include dining, shopping, or a tasting room in Old Town Newhall, that is one of the most direct ways to support the recovery. None of the events below take place at the destroyed venues, and they are unaffected.

SCV Stairs Project 4th Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

Friday, September 11  ·  Central Park Stairs, Saugus

Community climb Honors 441 first responders

Join The SCV Stairs Project for its 4th Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, honoring the 441 first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001, by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center through 13 rounds of the Central Park Stairs. It is an all-day event with no designated start time: come anytime and do as many rounds as you are able.

Local Girl Scout troops hand out an American flag for every round you complete. Carry it to the top of the stairs and place it on the hill, where the flags grow into a hillside memorial through the day. Follow and share #onthehill. The climb is organized by Melissa Mann & Christian Lazore.

What to Expect

  • All day, no designated start time. Come anytime, stay as long as you like.
  • Climb 110 stories through 13 rounds. Do as many as you are able.
  • A Girl Scout hands you a flag for each round. Plant it on the hill above the stairs.
  • Watch the hillside become a growing living memorial. Share it with #onthehill.

The Central Park Stairs are open daily from sunrise to sunset, free to the public, near Central Park and the Sports Complex in Saugus.
